Georgios Markopoulos, is a PhD in Biology with an interest in Basic and Translational Cancer Research.
He is currently a Senior Research Associate in the Neurosurgical Institute, University of Ioannina, studying the impact of intraoperative Flow Cytometry (iFC) in cancer cell detection and margins evaluation during surgical tumour excision.
Till today, he has been conducting research by combining Molecular Cell Biology, Cytometry and Bioinformatics techniques to study the impact of non-noding genome in cancer development.
He contributed in 53 scientific articles in Peer Reviewed Journals (>700 citations, h-index=14, i10-index=16), presented in several Scientific Conferences (5 Best Presentation Awards and 10 Invited Talks)and has been awarded with Scholarships from Stavros Niarchos Foundation (Program Archers) and Greek State Scholarships Foundation (Program IKY-SIEMENS).
